So refreshing to see frugality presented as empowering rather than restrictive!
The real answer is to be content with what you have as Jesus said Be content with Food and Clothes
I got tired of living pay to pay and not having anything nice. So I started a spreadsheet with everything I wanted from a new sofa to the smallest bottle of perfume.
It was great fun window shopping online while I added the item(s) to the spreadsheet with a picture of what it looked like. It took me months and I was getting excited thinking of all the stuff I could have when I started buying all the stuff. As time went on my attention turned from the spreadsheet to what I already had in my apartment: what I could use (meat in the freezer), what had expired (cleaned out the pantry), what I stopped using (air freshener for the toilet) and what I actually needed regularly (groceries that I actually ate).
I went back through the spreadsheet after about 3 months and I was so surprised by how many items I deleted because I didn’t use them any more. And instead of buying 5 of everything, I only bought 2 (one to use and one to replace).
The freedom from mind clutter was refreshing. Now I’m going through everything I have and using it up, food, toiletries, non-perishables before I buy new stuff. It’s taking me a while but not having to put my hand in my pocket constantly is just the best feeling.
I remember the days when checking my bank account felt like walking into a storm without an umbrella. The anxiety was constant. These tips aren't just 'budgeting'; they are a lifeline for your future self. Think of every dollar saved not as a restriction, but as a seed planted in a garden that will eventually provide you shade. You don't have to be perfect—just pick two habits today and let the 'drops of water' fill your jar. You've got this.
Number 12 is the one nobody talks about. Game changer.

On mortgage payment, on second monthly payment make this toward principal to bring down interest paid.
I am fascinated by people's ability to talk about the same thing in different words over and over and over again for decades, centuries , and to do it with such enthusiasm as if they are revealing some secrets while talking… it amazes me
i want to listen, but the background music is distracting..

Real wealth is free time.. No work.. Just living by ones own rules…
If you want sense listen to a Dave Ramsey rant.. He'll set you straight 😂
I just came back from the supermarket, where I bought reduced price chicken near its sell-by date. I cooked it straight away, ate half, and the rest I'll take to work for lunch tomorrow. I rarely buy full price meat.
As a European I don't understand number 17.
I’ll never forget the person who told me they spent $27,000 on restaurants the previous year. I was flabbergasted. Gee, if you want a $27,000 raise, just cook your own food!!!!
My Grandmother said it's not what you earn, it's what you save. 😊
You can cook in bulk even if you live on your own. Just freeze or refrigerate the other portions and eat later, saving time and money on cooking. The bulk cook doesn't have been that large either, for example a pasta bake in three portions, two pies one for now and one for later or a small jug in the fridge with four soup servings.
