As someone new to investing who has never watched these kind of videos, I was wondering what I could improve. It turns out I did exactly what you recommended 😀 Time to just leave my investments in there for ages.

Also, I agree with the guy who said we have a problem with you disliking beans & sausage

Hello Toby congratulations on your journey I’d like to get yours or people in the comments feedback on investing £500 a month at 18 I’m currently saving to move out I’m not looking for anything quick or risk based as I know you can make thousands quickly but lose it even quicker, if anyone’s got any suggestions with low risk and a decent interest It would be much appreciated.

Great video, pretty much what I was doing already but very nicely put. Another thing to consider as well, if you are investing monthly and you notice some crazy stuff is happening in the world which is affecting all markets, its worth pausing your new investments if youre seeing a consistent dip until it starts to climb back up again. That way you can get in a lower price and have more shares for your money in the long run. Though I'd only recommend that if you keep up with global news and are that interested in following the markets.

I have been investing for over 15 years now. I cleared all my debts and built an emergency fund. I also pay into a generous NHS pension scheme, SIPP, S&S ISA and a couple of rental properties. For my SIPP and ISA I keep it simple with my equity section consisting of a global index tracker with Vanguard. I also have a small allocation in a global bond fund because I like diversification. My aims are early retirement within the next 5 years.

I would say though that the best decision you can ever make is to invest in yourself i.e your health. This comes before anything else. For physical health eat well, exercise, limit alcohol, do not smoke etc. It is also important to look after your mental health and keep the mind ticking – read books, take up hobbies, keep in contact with like minded people etc. When it comes investing there is not enough emphasis on looking after yourself and much of the guidance is purely financial.

I notice people at my work, friends and family who are in senior positions with a nice salary and will end up with a generous pension scheme. However these people are often not in the best of health both physically and mentally and I cannot see them in the future enjoying the fruits of their labour very much and in some cases whether they will even be alive to even enjoy it. Being unwell can also affect your pocket – dental treatment, paying for adaptations, expensive treatments etc.

I have been reading a lot of investment books and watching videos and agree with a lot of the common wisdom and guidance however we have to remain healthy to enjoy our eventual goals 😉

Hey Toby I did a bit of retail investments back in 2020-2022 and I managed to get out with my money as some stocks went up massively and others dropped like rocks. If I had an understanding of S&S ISA I'd have done that 5 years ago and stuck to a world fund. I feel like I've wasted some time but at the same time I've got the money saved up to basically either be mortgage free or have a small manageable mortgage to pay off over 10 years. But now I'm like next goal retire at 60

Toby I’m colour blind, and particularly with red and green! I’m blissfuly unaware of most of the goings on during the fiscal year and don’t stress much, as basically I don’t see the short term pitches and troughs. I take your advice and pay little attention, just keep, investing, plan to avoid unnecessary tax, review in a reasonable manner and don’t react to much. Thanks for your advice and overwatch.

Calling individual stocks “too dangerous” is an overstatement. They can be risky, but history shows that even in something like the , outright failures are rare—most companies that leave are acquired or simply shrink rather than going bust. The real issue is concentration: putting everything into one weak company is risky, but holding a diversified mix of solid businesses is a different story. Index funds themselves are just bundles of individual stocks, so the underlying risk isn’t fundamentally different—it's about diversification and effort, not that single stocks are inherently unsafe.

I have a 75/25 split for my Stocks and Shares ISA with 75% in an all world index fund and 25% in about 20 UK dividend stocks which personally keeps me actively interested in investing. My personal pension is in an All World index fund.

I know that what I say is simplistic. However what I've found is that the best way to invest is to find ETFs with a great track record and are diversified. This will keep you on track. I created a more diversified version of VWRP which is pleasing.
