Avengers: Doomsday generated $16.5 million in advance ticket sales during its first 24 hours, despite most screenings for the December blockbuster not yet being available to book.
Disney insiders told TheWrap that sales opened Monday for approximately 1,000 domestic premium large-format locations carrying its new Infinity Vision certification.
Marvel launched the limited sale alongside the first full Doomsday trailer on July 20 which set a new Disney record and became the second-largest movie-trailer launch ever reported.
Studio insiders said premium showtimes on Thursday, December 17, and opening day on Friday, December 18, were already largely sold out. Exhibitors were reportedly preparing to add screenings for Christmas Day and later dates.
Presales Doubled ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’s’ First Day
Doomsday reportedly sold twice as much during its first day as Deadpool & Wolverine, even though the 2024 movie launched its presales across a broader selection of formats and screens, according to Variety.
The Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman film opened with $211.4 million in North America and finished with approximately $1.33 billion worldwide. Its performance made it the highest-grossing R-rated movie at the time and provided Marvel with one of its biggest post-Endgame successes.
Avengers: Endgame remains the more difficult benchmark. The 2019 film opened with a record $357.1 million domestically and ultimately earned nearly $2.8 billion worldwide.
Infinity Vision Gives Disney an Alternative to IMAX
Disney announced Infinity Vision at CinemaCon in April as a certification for existing premium large-format auditoriums. Qualifying theaters must meet standards involving screen size, laser projection and premium audio.
The label does not introduce a new projection system. It allows Disney to group premium auditoriums operated under theater-chain brands into a single marketing program.
The strategy is particularly important because Doomsday opens on the same day as Denis Villeneuve’s Dune: Part Three. The Warner Bros. release reportedly secured IMAX screens for the first three weeks of its run, leaving Marvel to emphasize alternatives such as AMC Prime, Cinemark XD and other certified premium auditoriums.
Avengers: Endgame is scheduled to return to theaters through Infinity Vision in September before Doomsday becomes the first new Marvel release promoted around the certification.
The Trailer Drew 503 Million Views in One Day

The first full trailer reached 503 million views across platforms in 24 hours. That surpassed Disney’s previous record holder, the Deadpool & Wolverine Super Bowl teaser, which recorded 365 million views when its television audience was included. Only Sony’s Spider-Man: Brand New Day trailer had a larger reported debut, attracting approximately 719 million views in its first day.
The footage brought together characters from the Avengers, X-Men, Wakanda and Fantastic Four storylines. Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Paul Rudd, Letitia Wright, Patrick Stewart and Channing Tatum appear among the heroes facing Robert Downey Jr.’s Victor von Doom.
