Sean “Diddy” Combs is now expected to remain in federal prison nearly one month longer than his most recent projected release date.

Federal Bureau of Prisons records list the 56-year-old music mogul’s release from FCI Fort Dix in New Jersey as February 20th, 2028. His previous projection was January 24th, 2028, a difference of 27 days.

The agency has not explained the change or connected it to Combs’ reported July altercation with another inmate. Bureau of Prisons release dates are projections and can change as sentence calculations, earned credits and other factors are reviewed.

Combs is serving a 50-month sentence after a federal jury convicted him of two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution. Jurors acquitted him of racketeering conspiracy and two sex-trafficking charges.

No Official Source Has Linked the Delay to the Reported Fight

Combs’ projected release date has changed several times since he began serving his sentence. Bureau of Prisons records had listed February 23rd, 2028, as his expected release before the date moved forward to January 24th. PEOPLE reported that earlier versions of his federal record included April 15th, April 25th and June 4th, 2028.

A source familiar with the incident told ABC News that the other inmate made a remark to Combs before the altercation. Combs was subsequently placed in solitary confinement, according to the source.

A Bureau of Prisons spokesperson declined to discuss the incident, citing privacy, safety and security restrictions involving individual inmates’ disciplinary matters and conditions of confinement. The confrontation occurred before Combs’ release projection moved from January back to February.

Combs Is Participating in a Federal Drug-Treatment Program

Combs is participating in the Residential Drug Abuse Program, commonly known as RDAP, at Fort Dix. The Bureau of Prisons describes RDAP as an intensive residential treatment program involving at least 500 hours of programming over nine to 12 months.

Eligible inmates who successfully complete it and meet other requirements may receive a sentence reduction of up to one year. Participation does not guarantee early release or the maximum available reduction. Combs’ attorneys requested that he be placed at Fort Dix so he could receive substance-abuse treatment and remain closer to his family.

Approximately 14 months that he spent at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn following his September 2024 arrest count toward his sentence. At sentencing, Combs said he had become sober for the first time in 25 years and described incarceration as forcing him to confront his conduct and substance use.

His Convictions and Sentence Remain Under Appeal

A jury convicted Combs in July 2025 of two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution under the Mann Act. U.S. District Judge Arun Subramanian sentenced him on October 3rd, 2025, to 50 months in prison, a $500,000 fine and five years of supervised release.

Combs’ attorneys are appealing both the convictions and the sentence. They argue that the Mann Act was improperly applied and that the judge relied on conduct associated with charges rejected by the jury when determining the punishment.

A three-judge panel of the 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals heard arguments on April 9th. The defense is seeking acquittal or a new sentencing hearing, and the appeals court has not issued a decision.
