The other drugs in short supply here in the U.S. are the weight loss/type-2 diabetes controllers like Ozempic, Wegovy and Mounjaro.

America has only ever had capitalism and it has always been riven with massive contradictions and problems, which for most of its history was inflicted on groups like American blacks and other ethnic and racial minorities or on the entire populations of other countries. Now that the problems are coming home people like this Inside China Business guy are angry and don't understand why America's system isn't working the way "it's supposed to" and they want to blame the government or bureaucrats or China. This guy is desperate to see the US force China into some kind of permanent relative poverty and subordinate role to the US, but he is frustrated because he sees the US constantly confounded in it's aims.

To be fair there has been quality issues with producers in India that can’t be overlooked but if you analyzes drugs at the receiving country that would not be a problem. It is also a question of patents, in Sweden a drug called Olanzapine was imported at $10 per box but since the pharmacies in Sweden bought the companies other products cheaper from other producers they threatened with not delivering other important drugs at all. So the phamacies had to sell it at full price $100 per box. But another thing should be noted about the US market: while ObamaCare was a benign thing it ended in a system that has put up the prices tremendously.

The drug companies do nott want their profits cut by the conpetition from cheap drugs. They are collaborating with insurance companies. As they all lobby the congress, you can forget about making cheap generics at home or easing importation laws. It is the law of the jungle out there.
